Your code runs. Does its backtest tell the truth?

Send your trading-bot repository, notebook or code excerpt. I check for one concrete bug within 24 hours, free. You get the file and line, why it changes the backtest, and the fix. No finding at the first look? I say so.

Six checks

What can flatter your backtest?

Look-ahead

A signal, fill or sort uses information from later in the test.

Missing costs

Spread and commission are absent from the result.

Impossible fills

Your code fills an order at a price the market never gave.

Gaps and time zones

Missing bars or clock differences change which data the rule sees.

Indicator start-up

Warm-up or recursive state changes a signal.

Platform parity

Your backtest behaves differently from MT5 or the exchange.

A day-level stop guard missed an order race

Two same-day entries after a stop invalidated our first multi-symbol EA run. I discarded that result and added a history check directly before each order. These are excerpts from the actual EA, not a made-up before-and-after return chart.

Before: the outer retry guard alone

if(InpBlockStopUntilNextDay
   && g_stopped_day_bar == g_day_bar)
   return;
// Outer retry guard; not enough alone.

After: recheck before each order

bool OpenSymbol(const int index)
{
   if(index < 0 || index >= g_symbol_count)
      return false;
   if(StopOccurredToday())
      return true;
   // Select symbol and place order…
}

The corrected guard reads today’s deal history for a stop exit. The outer guard remains as well. A second defect recalculated direction after partial closes. Direction is now frozen for the agreed holding block. Fixing mechanics is not evidence that a strategy makes money.

Trading risk disclosure

Futures and forex trading contains substantial risk and is not for every investor. An investor could potentially lose all or more than the initial investment. Risk capital is money that can be lost without jeopardizing one's financial security or lifestyle. Only risk capital should be used for trading, and only those with sufficient risk capital should consider trading. Past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results.

Hypothetical performance disclosure

Hypothetical performance results have many inherent limitations. No representation is being made that any account will or is likely to achieve profits or losses similar to those shown. There are frequently sharp differences between hypothetical performance results and the actual results subsequently achieved by any particular trading program. Hypothetical results are generally prepared with the benefit of hindsight, do not involve financial risk, and cannot completely account for the impact of financial risk in actual trading. Market conditions, the ability to withstand losses, and adherence to a trading program can all materially affect actual results.
